The temperature was around 80 degrees on a recent morning in Long Beach. Inside a 14,000-square-foot tent in The Queen Mary Dome, however, the environment was a bone-chilling 9 degrees as a group of artisans from China, dressed in thick coats, heavy gloves and black helmets, were busy chiseling, carving and chainsawing massive bricks of ice.
